ABOUT

Hi, I’m Mike.

I’m a Product Designer with about nine years of experience designing complex B2B and enterprise software. I’ve spent the last seven years at IBM working across infrastructure management, AI, and machine learning. Much of my work has focused on turning complicated technical workflows into experiences that are easier to understand and use.

From science to design

I didn’t start my career in design. I studied biotechnology and spent five years working as a laboratory scientist before deciding to make the jump into UX.

It turned out that science and design had a lot more in common than I expected! Observe a problem, form a hypothesis, investigate, test, learn from the result, and iterate. That way of thinking has stuck with me, especially when I’m working through complex systems where the answer isn’t immediately obvious.

Outside of design

Outside of design, I like playing video games and watching anime. I also like to think I’m a pretty decent Street Fighter 6 player. I play at local tournaments, have competed at EVO, and have spent an unreasonable amount of time tinkering with custom leverless controllers.

I’m also learning Japanese! I’ve been studying through textbooks and college courses, and I’m hoping to become as fluent as I possibly can. こんにちは!

Let’s talk

I’m always happy to talk about design, games, or whatever else you have in mind.
